This weekend I was in NYC and I got a chance to see a film about the Ferran Adria, the chef of "El Bulli" a restaurant in the north coast of Spain. Ferran is known for his innovation and 'science like' approach to cuisine, to the point were El Bulli is closed 6 month of the year as he researched different cooking techniques and technological advancement implementations. El Bulli has been named best restaurant by 'Restaurant Magazine' since 2002, it lost in 2008 to one of his former students who started a separate restaurant. About a month ago Ferran Adria and Pepsi Co announced a partnership to develop a line of healthier snacks with natural preservatives. It will be interesting to see how Ferran will have an influence on the direction many of the Pepsi brands are taking.
Two weeks ago, PepsiCo CEO and Chairman Indra Nooyi spent time at El Bulli where the chef - who has been described as the best in the world for his mastery of molecular gastronomy - hosted a workshop proposing new flavor ideas, details of which were kept mum.
Ferran will be working with Frito Lay and Tropicana, it has also been announced that he will be creating a line of new 'snackable' foods, breakfast options and convenience items with a special focus on healthier choices.
