In the past month, students across the world made their way back to school. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the back-to-school season has looked completely different for students, parents, and teachers. The new school year has brought about new routines, new technologies, and new stressors. And while most students are adjusting to this new world of education, some aren’t going back at all. We’ve also seen this back-to-school season reveal not only changes to the education system and daily life, but also some underlying issues within our own communities. As planners, we asked ourselves “what do all of these changes mean for our lives and for society as a whole?”. And we questioned which of these changes are just norms for the COVID world and which will last long after we overcome this pandemic. In this month’s edition of the Drop, we investigated how this critical time of the year is changing the landscape of our lives and what those changes mean for commerce— both today and in the future. Please enjoy the September edition of The Drop. We hope, as always, that it provokes and inspires you.
